The idea behind The Cardiac Surgeon's Diet and Health Design is a simple one -- follow this system of eating a balance of protein, carbohydrates, and fat-containing foods in moderation, and you will look better, feel better, have more energy, and potentially live longer -- without being hungry.

The History --

As a cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. B.P. Loughridge spent 28 years working with heart patients. During this time, one of the many things he observed was the fact that surgical patients often times were weaker at their three-week postoperative evaluation than they were when they left the hospital.

After extensive research, Dr. Loughridge determined that poor nutrition -- resulting from a low sodium, minimal fat and meat, and high carbohydrate diet was the problem. In essence, these patients were undernourished.

Dr. Loughridge drastically changed his post-surgical nutritional recommendations to include balanced meals of protein, carbohydrates, and fat in proper proportions, as well as multi-vitamins and mineral supplements. And his patients recovered significantly faster than patients who remained on the traditional low-sodium, low- or no-fat, high-carbohydrate diet.

The Rest of the Story --

After many years of continued research, study, and observation, it was obvious to Dr. Loughridge that poor nutrition was a larger problem than experienced by patients recovering from heart surgery. In fact, lack of proper nutrition has become a significant factor in the lives of hundreds and thousands of people across the United States. With The Cardiac Surgeon's Diet and Health Design, which was released late in 2000 and is being distributed by Ingram Books (ISBN 0-9703393-0-5), Dr. Loughridge continues his personal crusade to inspire change in the dietary habits of people across the United States.
